Aayat-ul-kursi and Repentance of a Notorious Thief

Ubqari Magazine - November 2014

Muhammad Sadiq, Muzaffar Garh

One night the thief reached the house of the maulana. The animals were tied inside the haveli. The thief climbed the wall to get into the house. He was blinded with darkness at once. He felt as if a strange, unseen force had tied both of his hands.

What was that thief, he was a big problem and a huge source of troubles for his locality. Often he used to steal from the houses of government employees, feudal lords, nawaabs, and landlords. Often the police of the local station, tehsil and district had taken him in custody for stealing. But the thief continued stealing. Often he used to stop a person he knew and ask him for money ranging from Rs. 500 to 1000. People used to fear him. And he used to laugh out loudly and would take away money ranging from Rs. 500-1000 from people's pockets easily. He used to arrange thefts even while he was imprisoned. The thieves trained by him used to steal and run his expenditures. He had one quality that he used to love religious and pious people. He never stole from religious scholars, hafiz-e-quran and poor people. If any hafiz-e-quran or a qari of Quran or a poor person lost something due to theft, they would go to this thief and they would describe the details of the things that were stolen to this person. And he used to tell them to go home and that the stolen property would be returned to their home. One day the thief planned to loot the house of a rich man of the locality. At once the thief thought that he is a very nice man and that he is a teacher of his area. I used to study from him when I was a child. I ate food at his house many times. I cannot behave like this. With this thought the thief cancelled his plan to loot the house of mauling. After a few days the devil again cast a doubt in the mind of the thief. The thief thought that if I can manage to successfully steal the golden buffalo from the house of the mauling, then I could become affluent overnight. With this thought one night the thief reached the house of the maulana. The animals were tied inside the haveli. The thief climbed the wall to get into the house. He was blinded with darkness at once. He felt as if a strange, unseen force had tied both of his hands. In the mean time an unseen voice came that if he ride to go ahead he would be buried in the sand. If you want to repent truthfully then come below. You are given a golden chance to start a new life. When the thief saw and listened to all of this he became drenched in his perspiration. The body of the thief was quivering with fear. In the meanwhile an unseen force threw him below forcefully from the wall. The thief screamed loudly and became unconscious. With the voice of his scream the maulina woke up. Maulana came out with a lantern. as he walked a little bit he saw a man lying on the floor on his belly. When the maulina saw his face he saw that he was a renowned thief of the society. The maulana picked up the thief and brought him to his sitting room. Respected readers! That maulana was my maternal grandfather. My grandfather recited surah Fatiha and made dum once before and once after and made dum on water. And then he sprinkled that water on the face of the thief. After some time the thief reained consciousness. The grandfather woke up our grandmother and asked her to make tea and to boil eggs for the guest. Then our grandfather massaged the thief from the head to the toe. He helped the thief a lot. After fifteen minutes the thief stood up and sat against the wall. He ate eggs and took tea. Upon seeing all of this the thief started crying. In the meanwhile our grandfather offered tahajjud prayers and asked the thief that what was the matter? Why are you standing like this with folded hands? And why did you come here at this hour of night? Upon listening to the sweet and polite conversation of our grandfather, the thief started crying like a child. He said, ustaad jee! Please forgive me, I have sinned a lot. I have stolen a lot. Today I came to your house to steal, and then what happened with the thief, he told about that to our grandfather verbatim. Maulana! For God's sake have me repent my sins. I shall earn halal sustenance in the future. The grandfather helped Muhammad Ramazaan, previously the thief, perform ablution. And had him pray two rakat prayers of repentance. After a few days the grandfather told me that whatever happened with the thief was due to the deed of Aayat-ul-kursi. Grandfather said that I recite aayat-ul-kursi every night three times and make dum by pointing at the whole haveli. Because the person who recites aayat-ul-kursi once
