Blindness Ends, Eyesight Regained

Ubqari Magazine - June 2015

Hazrat ibn Abbas رضی اللہ عنہا narrated that Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ used to recite Quran in the mosque and increased the volume of his recitation as he recited the verses. Some people of the Quraish found this intolerable and once they stood up to stop the Prophet ﷺ when suddenly their hands grabbed their own throats and they went blind. So these people came to the Prophet ﷺ and said that we request you to consider our condition while keeping in mind the presence of Allah as well as the fact that we are your relations. Narrators say that Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ was connected to all of the tribes of Quraish. Hence Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ prayed for these people such that their situation improved.

The first few verses of Surah Yasin were revealed then.

Ya Sin.﴾1﴿

By the wise Qur'an,﴾2﴿

Lo! thou art of those sent﴾3﴿

On a straight path,﴾4﴿

A revelation of the Mighty, the Merciful,﴾5﴿

That thou mayst warn a folk whose fathers were not warned, so they are heedless.﴾6﴿

Already hath the judgment, (for their infidelity) proved true of most of them, for they believe not.﴾7﴿

Lo! We have put on their necks carcans reaching unto the chins, so that they are made stiff-necked.﴾8﴿

And We have set a bar before them and a bar behind them, and (thus) have covered them so that they see not.

Narrators tell that not one of them accepted Islam.

Qatada bin Nauman رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہٗ narrated that Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ was given a gift of a bow and arrow. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ gave this bow and arrow to me in the war of Uhad and I used it to shoot arrows while standing in front of the prophet such that one end of this bow and arrow broke. But I did not move away from the place where I was shielding the Prophet. Arrows came very close to my face and when any of the arrows came closer to Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ, I would direct my face in front of the incoming arrow so that the honored face of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ would not suffer any damage. Since the bow had broken so I couldn’t shoot any arrows in defense. One of these arrows landed on my eye and my upper lid of the eye was damaged and crushed. I took pieces of my eye in my palm and came near the Prophet and when Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ saw my eye, his honored eyes filled with tears and he prayed that Oh my Lord, Qatada protected the face of your beloved so make the face of Qatada one with good eyes and sight. Hence both of Qatada’s eyes became healthy and his eye sight improved too.

Qatada bin Nauman رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہٗ narrated that once in the battle of Badr my eye was also damaged and the whole eye came out. After this Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ called Qatada and pressed Qatada’s eye with his honoured hand into the socket. After this it couldn’t be noticed that which eye of Qatada was damaged.

Hazrat Ubaidah رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہٗ narrated that in the battle of Uhad, the eye of AbuZar رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہٗ was damaged. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ applied some of his honoured saliva on the eye of Abuzar

رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہٗ and this eye became healthier than the other one.

Rafa bin rafae narrated that his eye was damaged in the battle of Badr and Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ applied some of his honoured saliva on it and prayed for him and this eye became healthy once more.

One salamani narrates from his mother that his uncle (mother’s brother) habib bin fawaik and his grandfather went to Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ. His grandfather was blind which happened because once while tending to his camel he stepped on the egg of a snake and since then his eyesight had deteriorated. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ then recited some verses and blew on the man’s eyes such that the man regained his sight. Narrator tells that my grandfather could then put thread in the needle too and though he was 80 his eye was still clear.

Saeed bin Ibrahim told that zannira رضی اللہ عنہا lived in Rome and was a Christian but when she accepted Islam her eye sight began to deteriorate. The non-believers said that this woman got blind due to Laat-o-azza, to which she said that I do not accept Laat-o-azza and deny its presence. The woman regained her eyesight soon after making this claim by the grace of Allah.
