Guidance Towards Benefaction

Ubqari Magazine - February 2014

As referred by Hazrat Abdullah Bin Umar رضی ا للہ تعالیٰ عنہ   , the Holy Prophet  was asked as to who is better amongst people? The Holy Prophet replied: ‘Every person who has purity of the heart and a truthful tongue.’ Shahaba رضی ا للہ تعالیٰ عنہم   said: ‘We understand about one who has a truthful tongue, but what is purity of heart?’ He replied: ‘ A person with pure heart is one who is pious, whose heart is clean, who does not have the burden of sins and neither does he has enviousness and jealousy in his heart for anyone.’ (Ibn e Maaja)

Hazrat Abu Musa Asahri رضی ا للہ تعالیٰ عنہ narrates that the Holy Prophet said: ‘Every Muslim should give Sadqa (donation in the name of Allah).’ People asked: ‘If he does not have anything to present as Sadqa then what should he do?’ He replied: ‘He should work with his hands for benefiting himself and offer Sadqa as well.’ They asked again: ‘What if he is unable to do this or (while he can) does not do the same?’ He said: ‘He should help a despaired and destitute person.’ They said: ‘If he does not even do this?’ He replied: ‘He should tell someone something good.’ They said: ‘If he does not even do this?’ He said: ‘Then he should (at least) refrain from causing harm to anyone since this is also a Sadqa for him.’ (Bukhari)

It is related with Hazrat Anas رضی ا للہ تعالیٰ عنہ that the Holy Prophet said: ‘One who guides towards benefaction, He is blessed with the rewards equal to the person who does a good deed and Allah admires helping the distressed.’ (Bazar, Targheeb)

Hazrat Abu Rafay رضی ا للہ تعالیٰ عنہ narrates that the Holy Prophet said: ‘One who takes part in washing of a dead body and covers his private parts and conceal any flaw if found, Allah forgives 40 of his major sins. And a person who digs a grave for his (deceased) brother and buries him, it is like he has made him stay in a house till he will be brought to life again (on Doomsday). He will receive so much benefit that would be equal to the benefit for giving a house to someone till Doomsday.’ (Tabrani, Majmua al Zawaid)

Hazrat Abu Huraira رضی ا للہ تعالیٰ عنہ quotes that the Holy Prophet said: ‘A person can see a tiny straw in the eye of his brother, but cannot see a trunk in his own eye.’ (Ibn e Haban)
