Blindness Befall upon the One Who Called Hazrat Ali Al Murtaza رضی اللہ عنہ a Liar

Ubqari Magazine - July 2016

Hazrat Harisa Bin Nauman رضی اللہ عنہ narrates that once I was crossing near Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ and saw a man sitting close to him. I greeted with salaam and left. When I came back, Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ asked me if I had seen the man who sat with him. I said Yes, I did! The Prophet ﷺ said: That was Hazrat Jibraeel علیہ السلام and he even answered your salaam.

(Akmaal Fe Asmaa Al Rijaal page 561)

It is mentioned in another narration that Hazrat Jibraeel علیہ السلام said to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that Harisa Bin Numan  رضی اللہ عنہis one out of those 80 men. The Prophet ﷺ inquired: O Jibraeel علیہ السلام ! What does it mean that he is one of those 80 men? So Jibraeel علیہ السلام replied: On the day of Battle of Hunain, all of the Companions  رضوان اللہ اجمعین will step back for a short while after losing the battle, but 80 men will stay steadfast with the Prophet ﷺ on the mountain at a time when the non believers will be showering arrows. ‘Harisa Bin Nauman’ will be one of those 80 brave hearted men. (Asad ul Ghaba volume 1 page no. 358)

This companion of the Prophet ﷺ had lost his eyesight in old age which is why he used to sit for long hours on his prayer mat. The Companion رضی اللہ عنہ kept a basket full of dates near him and had tied a thread from his prayer mat till the door of his hutt. Whenever a poor person would come on the door to say salaam, Hazrat رضی اللہ عنہwould tie dates to the thread and pull it. This way the dates would reach the poor. His family members asked the reason for taking so much pain for this act? They said that if he said so, his family members could easily give the dates to the arriving poor. Hazrat رضی اللہ عنہexplained that once I had heard the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying that: “means that giving the poor with own hands will be saved from a terrible death.”

The person who called Hazrat Ali Al Murtuza رضی اللہ عنہ   a liar became blind instantly:

Ali Bin Zazaan says: Ameer ul Momineen رضی اللہ عنہا once said something to which an unfortunate person replied outspokenly that: O Ameer ul Momineen رضی اللہ عنہ! You are (God forbid) a liar. To this Hazrat Ali رضی اللہ عنہ replied that: if I am speaking the truth then you shall face Allah Subhanawo Taa’la’s torment. That ill-fated person said that: You may say curse me as I do not care about it. Just as he uttered those words, he lost the sight of both his eyes and started stomping his hands and feet. (Zarqaani, volume 2 page no. 230)

Commentary: Can the Victory of Khyber be termed as an achievement of the human power? Definitely not! It is not the spectacle of human power but miracle of spiritual power which is bestowed on the part of the righteous men of Allah Subhanawo Taa’la. In simple words we call them marvels.

Well became a grave: a woman whose name was Arwa Binte Owais claimed in the court of the Chief of Madina, Marwaan Bin Alhukm that Hazrat Sayeed Bin Zaid رضی اللہ عنہ has unlawfully captured one of her lands. When Marwaan asked him to answer, he said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying that whoever occupies even a hand span of anyone’s property, on the Day of Judgement, he will be made to wear a gorget of all seven grounds. So, after listening to this Hadith, how is it possible that I occupy anyone’s land? After listening to this statement, Marawaan said: O woman! Now I am not going to ask you to present a witness. Go and take that land. After listening to this decision Hazrat Sayeed Bin Zaid رضی اللہ عنہ supplicated. O Allah Subhanawo Taa’la! If this woman is a liar then she turns blind and dies on this land. Therefore, the woman became blind. Muhammad Bin Zaid Bin Umro رضی اللہ عنہ says that I had seen that the woman had become blind and she used to walk by touching the walls. So much so that one day she fell in to a well situated on this land and died. No one took her out and so the well became her grave. This is how we saw the marvel of the supplication of a man who was Allah جل جلالہ righteous. (Mashkaat, volume 2 page no. 546, Hajjatullah, volume 2 page no. 866 reference Bukhaari O Muslim)

The poison did not work:  it is mentioned in the narratives that Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed رضی اللہ عنہ camped with his caravan at the site of “Hairah”. People said: O Leader of the Caravan! Save yourself from the poison of the Ajmees. We reckon that these people will give you poison. Hazrat  رضی اللہ عنہsaid: Let me see how does the poison of the Ajmees look like? When people gave it to him, he recited بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ  and ate the poison. Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed    رضی اللہ عنہ did not get hurt by the poison at all and it is mentioned in the narratives of “Kalbi” that a Christian priest whose name was Abdul Maseeh, brought such a poison which causes certain death in a matter of an hour. Hazrat رضی اللہ عنہ asked the priest for the poison and consumed it after reciting   []  right in front of him. Looking at this, Abdul Maseeh told his people that: O my people! He is alive after eating such a dangerous poison. This is definitely very astonishing. It is better for you to be friends with him and his caravan otherwise our defeat is confirmed. Therefore, the Christians paid a considerable amount of tax and reconciled. This incident took place during the era of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique’s رضی اللہ عنہ caliphate.
