Hazrat Maulana Ubaidullah Al Mufti رحمت اللہ علیہ, mentor of Jamiya Ashrafiya Lahore was among some of those intellectual personalities who have been a source of enlightenment and such a humble human being who had spent his life, wealth and time for the wellbeing of the Muslim Brotherhood. Hazrat رحمت اللہ علیہwas always concerned and worried about the safeguard of the Two Nation Theory of Pakistan. Hazrat رحمت اللہ علیہ was an amalgamation of a pleasant personality; soft manner of speech and a very modest heart. Whenever I would go to him, he would make me check his pulse and told me various poetic verses from Arabic, Urdu and Persian. He had a tremendously good memory. I went to him a couple of days before his death. I asked him: Hazrat, what is your age? He replied: Alhamdulilah, 95 years. One thing that he would repeat frequently was to ask us to pray that Allah Taa’la bestows him with a death and grave full of faith. Hazrat رحمت اللہ علیہ and his century long contributions are endless and worthy of attention. Once he asked me to visit him. If I would not visit him for a few days, he would come to meet me with his driver Farooq. This happened quite often and he would be very kind and generous to his younger ones. He used my prescribed medicines with complete conviction and confidence. Once he said: come to me someday. When I reached, he asked me to take a seat and went inside and presented me with the permission and succession of his caliphate. He said: whatever good is going on in the world, Allah جل جلالہ has made you a reason for it through your contributions. I want to be a part of this service too. These words were a testimony of his greatness. Otherwise, his contribution in the field of spiritual knowledge was so immense that people like us can only wish to reach that pedestal. May our Rabb illuminate his grave with the brightness of His Almighty’s noor, On 11-3-2016 after Friday congregation, his funeral was attended by millions out of which 90% were Allah جل جلالہ pious men. This massive crowd was an open depiction that Allah Taa’la’s righteous and devout men are laid to rest with such dignity and magnificence.
