Once Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi pledged Ayyaz that he will change his clothes and status with him and make him sit on his throne. Once Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi reached Kharqan to see Hazrat Abu Al Hassan. He sent his messanger to call upon Hazrat Abu Al Hassan to his tent and ordered the messenger to recite the following verse in case Hazrat Abu Al Hassan refuses to come.
Translation: Keep obeying your ruler besides obeying Almighty Allah and His Prophet.
When messenger communicated Sultan’s invitation, Hazrat Abu Al Hassan refused to come. Messenger recited the same verse he was told to. Hazrat Abu Al Hassan replied, “I am so much into obeying Almighty Allah that I feel ashamed to obey Allah’s Prophet. In these circumstances how come I obey the ruler?” When messenger narrated the whole episode to Mehmood Ghaznavi, he wondered, “I thought he was an ordinary Sufi but he appears to be a great Sufi, I myselft will visit him.” Sultan Mehmood changed his dress with Ayyaz and in the company of ten maids who were wearing manly clothes visited Hazrat Abu Ul Hassan in the garb of a servant. Hazrat Abu Al Hassan answered his greetings but didn’t stand as a token of respect. He starting attending Mehmood who was wearing costume of a servant. He didn’t attend kingly costume wearing Ayyaz. Mehmood wondered that it is difficult to entrap a saint like him. Hazrat Abu Al Hassan holding hand of Mehmood said, “First tell these Ghair Mehrams (marriageable servants) to leave the place.” Mehmood nodded maids to leave and requested Hazrat Abu Al Hassan to narrate any incident of Hazrat Bayazid Bastami رحمت اللہ علیہ. He said that Hazrat Bayazid Bastami رحمت اللہ علیہ once said that whosoever would see him would get rid of misfortune. Mehmood inquired, “Had he status elevated to Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for Abu Jahal, Abu Lahab did see Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ but could not get rid of their misfortune.” Hazrat Abu Ul Hassan said, “Mehmoood do not tresspass your Wilayah for Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, noone seen him except companion of Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in Quran also proves this.
