Ubqari Magazine - June 2014

Make peach and plum squash for iftar. Take one quarter (of a kg) peaches and one quarter (of a kg) plums. Cut them into thin pieces and remove kernels. Mix one quarter (of a kg) sugar and half tea spoon  salt in two glass water, add the peaches and plums and grind it for two minutes.

The month of Ramadan is coming; the time of the showers of Allah’s blessings is arriving. So we have to count each and every moment, days and weeks. The first thing is to save our time as it is the most precious! Do at least four things at one time. If all the tasks are windup properly, you can manage time to take rest and to worship. Wrap up your bed as soon as you get up and go to washroom reciting [space for Arabic writing]. As it is Seher time, pray nawafil before eating sehri. It has been observed that in many homes arrangements are made for only the food in preparations for Ramadan. I don’t want to go in its detail. Complete your preparation for Eid in Shaa/ban; do not go for shopping in Ramadan. Many of the sisters get their white wash done in the last ten days of Ramadan which is very tiring. Preparing new bed sheets, buying new crockery…do not do all this. Stop doing everything else and spend time in Allah’s (zikr) remembrance in abundance. Iftar parties are arranged for the relatives in the last ten days of Ramadan which is very exhausting. The people who go to attend the iftar party, along with iftar they generously spend time in backbiting. This is how we spend our last ten days of Ramadan. This month is our guest and we are its hosts, how we treat it? How inattentively this guest is treated in our homes? We do a lot of backbiting; bring indecent magazines to read, watch television, waste time on computer and if we see some friend, our favorite topics are new fashion, new dresses and the most favorite is backbiting. Do not be careless about this guest, treat it with love. Ramadan comes to all of us, give it maximum time. In Ramadan, our sisters go to kitchen after Zuhr prayer and remain busy there probably till Maghrib. They make pastries (samosas), dumplings (pakoras) and different drinks. This is not the purpose of fasting. Consider if our Prophet Mohammad ever took pastries, dumplings, different kinds of foods and drinks in his iftar? Not at all! So let’s break out fast with palms or palm shake. To make palm shake, take one quarter (of a kg) palms, remove their kernels and soak in one glass water. Grind sugar with one glass of water and add the soaked palms, one jug of palm shake is ready. Make barley and molasses drink and take it in iftar. It would eliminate numerous diseases.

Following is a drink to remove thirst and diseases. If sugar patients drink it with salt and chaat masala, they would get rid of diabetes in one month. Put one kg pumpkin in two kg water and boil it on low heat until it reduces to one and a half kg. Now let it get cool and then keep in the freezer. After this, add equal quantity of water to make any kind of squash according to your choice but sugar patients should take it with chaat masala or salt. Drink it in seher and iftar, the sugar patients would feel better and keep fasts easily.

Now add four glasses of water to it, one jug of squash is ready. You can make as many jugs as you like. Eat light food in iftar. While making chapatti, use maida (fine flour) in place of flour to roll it. Applying maida to chapatti makes it very soft and white. Cook the meal after Zohar prayer. Use maida to make chapattis, spread the napkin and keep placing the cooked chapattis in it. When all the chapattis are made, wrap the chapattis well in the napkin and keep in a thick shopper. Fold the shopper and put in the hot pot. Always keep the chapatti like this for old people as it remains soft as bread. Preserve the green chili. Take quarter (of a kg) green chili, cut each of them from one side and put a pinch of salt in it. Now fry these chilies. Cut the green chilies’ stalks and put the chilies in vinegar so that they do not spoil. Sometimes we wish to eat sauces in seher and iftar but find it difficult to grind.

An easy recipe: Take half bundle of clean and washed coriander and half bowl of mint leaves. Eight green chilies, one tea spoon salt and one big tomato. Mix half cup sugar with water, add all the ingredients and grind well for one minute. A very tasty sauce is ready!

While cooking or doing anything related to it, keep reciting [space for Arabic writing]. It dismisses the family disputes, reciting it in abundance would stop the children from fighting. It would cover your family under the wreath of love and the food you cook would be finger licking tasty.

In the month of Ramadan, you have to store large amounts of patience and tolerance for the whole year. Share love with each other and protect yourself and your family from evils. Promote faith and piety. Once the evils that you have repented, do not ever let them enter your home again just like the way we stick to the good things as jewelry and a variety of good dresses. The biggest enemy is our sins and the worst opponent is our self, which keeps opposing the good. Keep yourself away from your enemy as enemies are to be hated but not to be loved!
