The tale of a young and innocent but steadfast girl

Ubqari Magazine - October 2013

Look child! Tell us where your father is otherwise we would tear you in pieces’. The other person addressed the girl furiously.’ ‘I have told you twice that I don’t know about his whereabouts. Duzz! Duzz! The furious man slammed the girl twice with mighty blows.  (Rabia Qamar, Lahore)

A young pretty girl was busy in her domestic task with full concentration.  She had cooked the meal and now was busy in kneading the flour dough to make breads.  Meanwhile there was a knock on the door. ‘Who is at the door’?  The girl asked before opening the door.  ‘Just open the door’. Someone shouted in fury. There were three four tall and strong men standing outside with naked swords in their hands.  ‘What’s the matter?’ ‘The girl asked politely.’  ‘O girl!’ where is your father’? Asked one of them angrily. ‘I don't know where my father is’. ‘No, you know where he is and you are lying’ said the men.’  ‘I’ve said, I don’t know about him’. She was steadfast, perseverant and full of courage.  They were quite shocked to see that even a young child was under the influence of a person’s love.  One of them come forward and caught her firm from her arm and said, ‘O girl! Tell us the truth about where your father is, otherwise our sword will quench its thirst from you blood.’ ‘I have already told you twice that I don’t know about my dad’. Duzz, Duzz, the angry tall man slammed the girl over her cheeks with such mighty blows that her ears started bleeding but she remained steadfast.  Soon the guys became disappointed and turned back.  When they had gone, the young girl got up and started making breads with her small hands. She took the loaves and tied them in a cloth and hid under her cloak.  Then she come out of her house and looked around her.  Then she followed a certain direction and started walking quite briskly.  Though she was moving fast and couldn’t breathe easily due to brisk walking but she continued.  Whenever she heard any one paving by, she slowed down to avoid anyone’s notice.  She turned aside and saw a cave at some distance.  She looked around and then around and then entered the cave.

Inside that cave were two most respected and honored personalities of all the times. When her dad saw her, he stood up and asked her with love if anyone had noticed her coming there. ‘No Dad, I was quite careful’. ‘Well done! My child, you are very brave.’ ‘Here is you meal’, the girl took out the loaves that she had baked and then she walked away.

Dear kids! Do you know who that young little girl was?  She was Hadhrat Asma , the daughter of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddique  and sister of Hadhrat Ayesha  and the guy who slammed her and caused her ear bleed was Abu Jehl and the persons inside the cave were our Holy Prophet and Hazrat Abu Bakr

Therefore! Dear kids! We should also pray to Allah Almighty to bless us with such a strong faith and bless us with courage/ability (taufeeq) to remain steadfast in our belief.

Indeed, ‘Pride has a fall’ (Mohammad Hyder, Lahore).

There was an old oak on the river bank.  He would whisper to himself, “I am so mighty and strong that even the gusty winds can’t make my branches bow.  My stem is so strong that it can bear storms without breaking or even bending.

There were some weeds and bushes around him.  One day the tree asked the bushes, “I feel pity on you helpless tiny plants, you are too weak that you start shaking even with a mild blow of breeze.”  “How could you withstand strong currents of wind and you will be uprooted but I will still be standing with same grace.”

At last on one very windy day, strong gush of wind came and the old oak was still standing upright.  The wind could not move it even an inch.  The oak addressed the bushes and said ‘you see, even the strong wind could not do me any harm and you are just bowing before it.’

That really infuriated the wind and it started so strong that even the oak started feeling like helpless.  Its branches started breaking with a bang.  Finally its strong trunk also broke into two.  On the other hand the bushes were just withering right and left but when the wind stopped, they were again standing straight and said, “Those who have pride are uprooted while those who are humble remain safe.”

CHEATING DOES NOT CONTINUE FOR EVER (Rehana – Karachi)

There were many rats in a house.  By chance a cat also came there and it started eating them.  In a few days it had eaten a large number of them.  The rats would remain scarified and hidden in their holes.  Whenever they would come it, they were quite careful and conscious.  So the cat didn’t have a chance to catch them.  Once upon a time the cat hadn’t hunted down a single rat for so many days. She thought of a plan.  She tried to camouflage herself with flour so that it looked like a heap of flour and the rats would not recognize it and then it would catch them.  So she got herself covered with flour all around her body and then sat in a corner to get their attention.  The rats thought the cat as a heap of flour and they seemed to quite careless about the cat as they couldn’t find it.  When some rats were quite close enough, the cat jumped at them and captured them and ate them up.  She was very happy at her achievement.  She liked the trick so much that she decided to try it every day.  Next day she repeated the same thing and settled herself in a corner.  The time went slowly as she was waiting for the rats but no one came near her.  At last one old rat saw her from its hole and said it loudly, “we know it’s you, though looking like a heap of flour, but we would never come closer to you as your cheating can never continue.
